The Daily Star
---- — There’s an old saying, “Be careful of what you wish for.” If you are wishing for Mitt Romney to become the next president, you will be unpleasantly surprised by what he will do.
He has promised to give the top 2 percent of earners a huge tax cut, although in the debate he denied that. But he has to. He has to pay back those million-dollar donors that paid for his nomination and election. He has promised to use the Ryan budget as his budget, and the Ryan budget gives this tax cut to the super rich.
When he gives this huge tax cut (on top of Bush’s huge tax cut), the money has to come from somewhere. The pot is only so big. Cutting Big Bird won’t do it. He refuses to tell us where the money will come from because you won’t like it.
One place it will come from is Medicare. He has promised to turn Medicare into a voucher system. He didn’t deny this in the debate. Instead of guaranteed government Medicare, you will get a piece of paper. You will take the paper, find your own private insurance and good luck to that.
Are you elderly and ill? What insurance company wants you?
Are you caring for a handicapped child?
Are you out of work? Working at a job without benefits? At minimum wage?
A student with big loans to pay off?
Insurance companies want only young, healthy people working in good-paying jobs with health benefits. The rest of us will either pay more or be denied coverage.
So which Romney do you want for president, the New Romney, the Old Romney or the New New Romney that will show up on Election day with surprises for you?
