In a press release, the Delaware County Human Services Departments announced today that they have arranged for free public transportation for victims of Hurricane Irene to travel to the Disaster Assistance Service Center at Belleayre Ski Center in Highmount and two area grocery stores.
The Disaster Assistance Service Center is a three-county service center for Delaware, Greene and Ulster counties.
The following Shuttles will be available for victims of Hurricane Irene in the Margaretville, Arkville, Fleischmanns, Roxbury, Grand Gorge and Prattsville or surrounding areas. Riders do not have to be Delaware County residents.
Disaster Assistance Service Center Shuttles
Saturday thru Friday start at 8 a.m. in Grand Gorge at the Civic Center and Margaretville Country Store. The identified stops for pick-up are listed below and will be traveling to the Disaster Assistance Center daily until 5 p.m.
There will be continuous trips throughout the day to the Disaster Assistance Center and will return individuals to their starting locations. The buses will leave the Assistance Center at 5 p.m. These vehicles will be labeled with signs that state which location they will be returning to.

Grocery Store Shuttles
Margaretville Area:
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be an ARC Bus traveling to the Price Chopper/ Rite Aid Pharmacy in Delhi. Margaretville will begin at 10 a.m. at the Fleischmanns Fire Department and proceed to the Beehive in Arkville and then to the Hess station in Margaretville. Upon arrival at Delhi Price Chopper, a two-hour time frame will be permitted for shopping. The bus will remain in the parking lot.
Roxbury Shuttle:
Monday, a shuttle will be available for those interested from the Roxbury and Grand Gorge areas and will travel to Walmart in Oneonta. This shuttle will start at the Methodist Church on Main Street in Roxbury starting at 10 a.m., stopping at the Grand Gorge Civic Center and then proceeding to Oneonta Walmart. Upon arrival at Walmart, a two-hour time frame will be permitted for shopping. The bus will remain in the parking lot.
These shuttle/bus arrangements will allow a household member to travel to purchase groceries and other items. No large items should be purchased and one should only purchase what they can carry. No children are expected or will be allowed because of limited seating capacity and only one person per household is permitted. The shuttle service is only for those experiencing a hardship because of the flood.
