COMMENTING ON STORIES:

10. Random and inflammatory statements that are off topic.
11. Advertising of any kind.
12. Typing in all caps.

WE ENCOURAGE REASONABLE AND COURTEOUS COMMENTS THAT:

1. Create conversation on issues of interest and concern to fellow readers and local community members.
2. Express opinions and contrarian views.
3. Stimulate debate with respectful language.
4. Stay within the boundaries of these rules.

18th annual Cabaret Night at school to benefit FOMA

The 18th annual Cabaret Night, a fundraiser for Friends of CCS Music and Art, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Cooperstown High School.

The evening will feature four hours of musical performances, a Brooks' barbecue chicken dinner and a raffle.

The evening will feature the Small Town Big Band, Ah Coopella, Native Sons jazz trio, the faculty-band the Cosmic Cowboys, and the rock band Goats with Narcolepsy.

School ensembles performing include the middle and high school jazz bands, Harmonia, and student ensembles.

Individuals performing include Julia Robinson, Nancy Fisher, Samir Touahri, Laura Weber, Joey Katz, Hans Ofer, Chris Harloff and Julian Miller.

Expanding the evening's offerings will be belly dancing in the aisles, courtesy of dance instructor Maureen Broeking.

Also new, chair massages will be provided in 10-minute increments by Alison Phillips LMT, who will be donating her proceeds to FOMA.

A Brooks' chicken dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m., at tables decorated with artwork of Kristen Karasek's and Eileen Murphy's middle and high school students.

The cost will be $10 for a half-chicken dinner and $7 for a quarter-chicken dinner. Takeouts will be available.

A raffle drawing will cap the evening's festivities.

The raffle will include gift certificates to Alex & Ika's, Doubleday Cafe and the Otesaga, memberships to the New York State Historical Association and the Cooperstown Art Association, items from The Lemon Tree Shop, original artwork, hammer dulcimer lessons, a bike helmet, items from Dick Blick Art Materials, a ukulele, toys, cash, wine and more.

Proceeds from Cabaret Night will be used by the Friends of CCS Music and Art to encourage, support and strengthen music and arts education at Cooperstown Central School, according to a media release.

FOMA funds art, music and poetry slam awards, the new Concerto Competition, and the Middle School Drama Club. Each summer, FOMA provides scholarships to students in grades 3 through 11 attending arts- and music-related camps and lessons.

FOMA meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 in the high school faculty room, and new members are welcome.
