As in years past, food will be a focal point at the 44th annual Cooperstown Winter Carnival.
From gourmet samplings to local bake sales, attendees will have much to choose from at the carnvial, which will be held Feb. 11-13.
The carnival's contests will return this year, with local restaurants as well as the general public invited to enter. This year's "Volcanic Blast" wings contest will take place at the Veterans Club, while the "Aloha Means Goodbye" Chili Contest and Carnival Closer will be held at Brewery Ommegang's café.
From noon until the food is gone on Saturday, Feb. 12, the Cooperstown girls' softball team will sell a variety of snacks and hot beverages at the Doubleday Field Parking Lot.
At 3 p.m. Feb. 12, the "Island Indulgences" Dessert Lovers Festival will take place in the Farmers' Market building in Pioneer Alley.

All entries must include at least 100 samples. Categories include individual adult, individual youth, restaurant and a new award for audience choice. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place in each category. There is a fee for tasting.
On Sunday, Feb. 13, the Cooperstown Veterans Club, will host the "Volcanic Blast" Chicken Wing Contest from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The contest is open to restaurants and individuals and there is a minimal fee for tasting. Call Geoff Bell at 437-0007 for more information or to register.
The 12th annual Cheesecake Tasting will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church at 66 Chestnut St. Donations will benefit Double H Camp Hole in the Woods at Lake Luzerne, for children with life-threatening diseases.
The Chili Contest will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brewery Ommegang's new café. Visitor can vote for their favorite restaurant and individual chili entries. There is a minimal fee to sample. The Women's Club of Cooperstown will begin its 2012-13 year with its annual salad luncheon at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Christ Church Parish House on Fair Street in Cooperstown. Clark Foundation announces scholarship winners
Jane Forbes Clark, president of The Clark Foundation, recently announced that The Board of Directors has approved first-year college scholarship grants to 186 students, totaling $694,800.
