COMMENTING ON STORIES:

The 35th annual Richmondville Days celebration is set for June 3 , 4 and 5, and the theme this year is "Let Freedom Ring."

The Richmondville Volunteer Firefighters will kick off the weekend with a barbecued chicken dinner starting 4 p.m. Friday. At 6 p.m. there will be a Little League game at the Richmondville Little League Field, and at 7 p.m. there will be a free indoor movie at the Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad.

Saturday, June 4, will include a pancake breakfast at the Lutheran Church from 7 to 9:30 a.m., and a rummage sale at the Methodist Church. The parade, which will features entries from all around the region, will step off at 10 a.m. Organizers are seeking parade participants and floats are especially encouraged. Parade entry forms are available from Gary Rightmyer at (518) 294-6550, Deb Haslun at (518) 294-6460 or Lisa Crapser at (518) 294-7112.

Throughout the day, there will be children's games, bounce houses, Freckles the clown, a rock climbing wall for the children, appearances by Sparkles the tall juggler and Magic Dan the magician, and the Richmondville Trolley will be available for rides to event venues.

Wes Laraway will bring his Birds of Prey presentation to Radez School between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. In addition, there will be bake sales, a silent auction, classic/antique car show, and a girls' softball game. The Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad will have a dunking booth, and the antique car people's choice award will be presented. The Richmondville Historical Society will conduct tours at the Bunn Mill, including weaving, soap making and broom making demonstrations and vendors. To take part in the Red, White and Blue Cookie Decorating Contest, call Dee Falzarano at (518) 294-6336.

Saturday will conclude with a cookout to benefit the Richmondville Rural Cemetery, followed at 7 p.m. by the performance of the United States Army Band, and a fireworks display behind the Radez School at 9 p.m.

Sunday will begin with a pancake breakfast at the firehouse, and the winning ticket for the tractor raffle to benefit the fire department's uniform fund will be drawn.

There will be an ecumenical church service at 10:45 a.m., after which Bunn Mill will host the Historical Society pork roast, an old-fashioned ice cream social, and live music by Ashley Rickson.
