On May 3, National Teacher Appreciation Day, the Catskill Regional Teacher Center had its annual meeting at the SUNY Oneonta College Camp.
Before the meeting, the Teacher Association presidents of the 35 public school districts in the Teacher Center consortium elected the following teachers to the policy board:
Otesgo Northern Catskill Board of Cooperative Educational Service Area Elementary Teachers: Maria Johnston, Roxbury Central School.
ONC BOCES Area Secondary Teachers: Jill Karen Accordino, itinerant art teacher.
ONC BOCES Area Teachers at Large: Eileen Robbins, science teacher, Oneonta High School.
The policy board changed the bylaws to increase the number of voting teachers on the board. It eliminated alternate members and added those two members at large, one from each BOCES area schools.
Nominated to those positions were Ariann Tubia, elementary teacher for Oneonta City Schools for the ONC BOCES area schools, and Erica Gregory, elementary special education teacher at Sidney for the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES Area Schools. If elected by the Teacher Association presidents, they would join the policy board in July.
Nominated to fill vacancies on the policy board were Marian Mattice of Downsville Central School, to serve as the DCMO BOCES area elementary teachers representative, and Michael Cook of Oneonta Community Christian School, to serve as the private schools representative. Mattice and Cook would be filling vacant terms, and would join the policy board in June.
Fran Scelsi Hess, retired Cooperstown High School science teacher, was honored with a certificate of achievement for attaining National Board Teacher Certification during her last year of teaching. Hess will join the retired teachers' collaborative of teacher instructors for the Catskill Regional Teacher Center.
Donna Shean of Cooperstown was given a gift as volunteer for the Teacher Center this year. Shean is a teaching assistant at Laurens Central School. Also recognized in the annual report were two State University College at Oneonta work study students: Serena Sackett of South Kortright, and Michael Ross Santamont of Oneonta.
