On Feb. 12, TJ's Restaurant will host Cooperstown's Got Talent and the return of lip sync, presented by the Glimmerglass Festival, as a part of the Cooperstown Winter Carnival.
The talent show, from 6 to 8 p.m., will offer 12 acts to highlight the creative skills of the local community. Space is limited, so those who want to perform should e-mail cooperstownsgottalent@yahoo.com.
The return of a Winter Carnival tradition, the lip sync contest, will follow from 8 to 10 p.m. This contest will allow those 16 and older to compete for prizes. First-, second- and third-place finishers for both contests will receive iTunes gift cards of $50, $25, and $10 respectively.
Tickets for the combined event are $12.50 per person, which includes dinner and one drink, or $5 per person to attend without dinner. Additionally, attendees can reserve a full table for $100 _ which includes dinner and one drink for eight individuals. Reservations may be made by e-mailing cooperstownsgottalent@yahoo.com.
In addition to the Saturday evening entertainment, Carnival-goers can take advantage of a wide range of activities all weekend long. At 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will offer a free showing of the film "Lilo & Stitch" as part of the Cabin Fever Film Series, sponsored by the Hall, the Fenimore Art Museum, and the Glimmerglass Festival.
The Clark Sports Center will host a bowling tournament for adults and children ($3 for members, $6 for non-members) on Friday.
On Saturday, the Children's Disco will be offered by Brookwood School from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Cooperstown Fire Hall. From noon to 2 p.m., the TREP$ Marketplace will be open for business at the middle/high school gymnasium.
Sunday's offerings include the "Surf's Up" sled races at Lake Front Park at 10:30 a.m., the Bob Smullens 5k and 10k runs starting at Pioneer Park at 12:30 p.m., and Kids' Karaoke from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge Building.
A complete schedule of the weekend's events, and registration forms for the activities, are available at www.cooperstowncarnival.org.
