Church plans dinner, auction

St. Mary's Church in Oneonta will host a "Bite and Bid" supper and auction at the parish center at 38 Walnut St. Kevin Herrick of Lettis Auction will be auctioneer. The doors will open for preview at 1 p.m., with supper at 5 and the auction at 6. For information, call 226-1785.

The menu will be hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chili, pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, desserts and beverages. The auction will feature furniture, small kitchen appliances, antiques, paintings, prints, quilted wall hangings, sofas, tables, cabinets, baby items, bedding and box lots.

Oneonta DAR to meet Saturday

The Oneonta Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at the Masonic Temple on Main Street on Saturday. A covered-dish luncheon will start at noon.

Joan Sondergaard, New York state registrar and division vice chairman of lineage research for the Northeast will present the program. All members and prospective members are invited. The objectives of the NSDAR are historic preservation, promotion of education and patriotic endeavor. For information, call 433-2292.

Church to sponsor trip to NYC

The First United Methodist Church of Oneonta will sponsor a bus trip to New York City on Saturday, Oct. 16. The bus will board at 6:45 a.m. at the Eastern Travel depot at 41 Orchard St., in Oneonta for a 7 a.m. departure. The first drop off in New York City will be at Bryant Park, and then the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In the evening, passengers will be picked up at 7 p.m. at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and then at Bryant Park for a 7:30 p.m. departure to Oneonta.

The cost for the trip is $52, and checks payable to First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 may be sent to the church. Registration should include name, address and phone number. Checks should have "N.Y.C. Bus Trip" in the memo line. No refunds will be given unless the trip is canceled.

Benefit to aid area woman

The Susquehanna Deanery of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany will host a dinner and raffle in Oneonta on Saturday to benefit the family of Leia Bailey.

Presenters said Bailey has faced many medical challenges. Her parents, Charlie and Polly Bailey of Oneonta, are caring for Leia and her young son, Tyler. Proceeds from Saturday's dinner and raffle will aid the family.

Dinner will be served at The Lord's Table at 18 Elm St. from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The suggested donation is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and younger. The raffle will feature prizes donated by churches and local merchants.

Legion to host horseshoe tournament

The Oneonta American Legion Post will host its inaugural horseshoe tournament at noon Sept. 19. Barbecue chicken, clams and other refreshments will be available.

The tournament fee is $20 per person, with prizes awarded for first- through third-place finishing teams.
