Summer is a fun time to relax outdoors and do some light reading. That is commonly referred to as beach reading, even if you don't visit the beach. So stock up for the long weekend ahead.
In Peter Tonkin's novel "Red River," the Gorges Dam in China has failed after a major earthquake. While everyone is running away from the disaster, Richard and Robin Mariner are going upstream. They believe they can help save some larger cities, if they can survive the trillions of gallons of water headed their way.
Blaize Clement has been writing a series of pet-sitting mysteries and the latest is "Cat Sitter Among the Pigeons." Dixie Hemingway is helping a client take care of his cat and while doing so gets to know his infant great-granddaughter. She's adorable, but also at risk of being killed because of what her mother knows. It seems Mom knows enough about local big-name, big-money people to send them to prison for life and they aren't willing to let that happen. Dixie is determined to keep the baby safe.
"Once Upon a Time, There Was You" a novel by Elizabeth Berg, looks at the power of love and family bonds. John and Irene, once young and in love, divorced after many years of marriage. Their daughter, Sadie, is the only thing they have in common anymore. When something happens to her, the two come together to help her. Their long-lost feelings for each other slowly rekindle in this heartwarming story.
Nick and Alena's wedding is set for the coming weekend in the novel "Nick of Time" by Tim Downs. The only problem is Nick has disappeared. He's working on a murder case involving an old friend and it's taking him far away from church. Will he make it back in time or is he intentionally letting his work take him away?
Aimee Leduc's detective business is thriving, but when her godfather asks a favor, she takes time to check on his wealthy girlfriend, Xavierre d'Eslay. She hasn't been taking his calls and he's worried something may be wrong. When Aimee arrives, she discovers Xavierre strangled in her own yard and her godfather the prime suspect. Aimee knows it can't be true, and she sets out to find the real killer in "Murder in Passy," a novel by Cara Black.
Regan Reilly and her husband are planing a weekend at the Jersey shore with her mother in the novel "Mobbed" by Carol Higgins Clark. Regan, a private investigator, isn't even finished packing when her mom calls and asks her to come right away. It seems that an old friend has just sold her home and is having the biggest garage sale ever. The items for sale are ones left behind by an actress who had briefly rented the home. But why did she leave so many things, why did she leave in such a hurry, and exactly where is she? It's a mystery for Regan to solve.
Children's Programs
It's summer and the children's programs and summer reading book clubs have started. If you haven't already registered or had your children visit the library, make it a point to stop soon. We've got programs for all ages, along with contests and reading clubs. Children can read books all summer long and receive prizes when they complete reading sheets.
