The 22nd annual Hartwick Seminary Summer Institute of Theology will take place at Hartwick College in Oneonta from July 29 to Aug. 3.
The institute is an adult Christian education program for clergy and laity, presented by the Foothills Conference of the Upstate New York Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
According to a brochure for the Institute, the Institute was established in 1991 by the Foothills Conference for two primary purposes:
"¢ To train lay people as deacons for a variety of ministries within the conference for the support of pastors and congregations; and to build up the body of Christ.
"¢ To provide meaningful adult education and spiritual growth for laity and clergy by offering various courses and seminars in biblical studies, theology, church history, and practical areas of ministry in an environment of worship and fellowship.
The Institute offers two types of classes: Seminars and courses.
Seminars last 2½ hours and are held in the afternoon or evening. Courses are one hour long.
Participants may register for one class or seminar or for the entire week.
Two dozen faculty members will lead nearly 50 classes from which attendees can select.
Check-in and room assignment will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the Hilltop House Dormitory near the back of campus.
Registration is required by July 15.
