The Curriculum and Educational Space Committee _ a citizens group _ proposed construction of a new 60-room high school for 800 students in Oneonta.
The proposal was presented to the Oneonta School Board by Mrs. Rachel Latcher, chairman of the study team, Wednesday night.
A 60-room high school _ which includes special teaching stations such as gyms, labs and an auditorium _ is not much different from the proposed new high school rejected by the voters last spring.
If anything at all, last night's proposal is an "expanded" high school.
The citizens' committee swung into action late last fall after the school board voted to seek voter approval for a new high school.
The suggestions made by the special study group last night will now be turned over to Warren Ashley, Connecticut architect who was commissioned by the school board to design a new high school.
After he reviews the suggestions, they will be turned over to a second citizens committee _ on building and materials. This one is headed by Laverne P. Butts Jr.
It will be the job of this committee to implement the physical plans of the new school, the suggestions made by the advisory citizens' committee last night.
The committee report drew praise from the school board.
No estimate of cost for a new high school is available because the plans implementing the new suggestions have not yet been drawn up.
The proposed new high school voted on last spring would have cost $2,450,000.
