The Cherry Valley-Springfield High School Chorus has completed its research project examining folk music of the Northern Catskills in the 1920s, 30s and'40s.
The data collected so far include 16 interviews, essays and articles on the interviews, and 17 songs.
This background information will be included in the upcoming book form of the project, organizers said.
Alexis Gonzales-Jusino and Ashley Van Avery helped consolidate the interviews into anecdotal form.
Students who conducted interviews for the project were: Nick Carson, Savannah Crowley, Justina Farris, Shawna Guardi, Nadine Guernsey, Michelle Jones, Erin Lamouret, Aaron Leentjes, Ashley Miles, Maggie Millner, Aaron Myatt, Anna Myatt, Tasha Patterson, Emily Searles and Mikaela Tripp.
Researchers in addition to Gonzales-Jusino and Van Avery were: Felicia Anderson, Alexis Evans, Lizzie Fedourich, Guardi, Ketura Lyon, Chad Rachon, Joseph Supp and Anna VanDerkrake.
The program coordinator was Liza DiSavino, CVS general and vocal music teacher.
Copies of the raw data have been given to the school library, the local museum, the New York Folklife Society and the New York Historical Society.
The results of the study are now being consolidated and put into book form. Copies of the final product will be given to the above groups, the Otsego County Music Educators Association and the Folklife Archives of the Library of Congress.
Grant money will be sought to assist with publication costs.
