The Boys and Girls Club of Sidney will benefit from the JCPenney Afterschool Round Up program from Friday to Oct. 25.
South Side Mall JCPenney customers will be able to "round up" their JCPenney purchases to the nearest whole dollar and donate the difference to the JCPenney After-school Fund, which benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney. Donations will help the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney provide children in need with access to afterschool programs, organizers said.
The club's after-school program will sponsor a Lights On Afterschool rally at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.
It will be one of more than 7,500 such events around the nation that day.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is chairman of Lights On Afterschool, and is calling for expanding after-school opportunities so that every child who needs a program has access to one, organizers said.
According to organizers, the event will highlight three of contributions that after-school programs makes to Sidney and the Tri-Town area: keeping children safe and healthy, inspiring them to learn and relieving working parents of worries about their children's activities during the afternoon hours.
Parents, supporters and community members are encouraged to attend.
The club is at 21 Liberty St. on the second floor of the Sidney Civic Center.
