SPRINGFIELD CENTER _ Mr. and Mrs. Robert Duncan of Freeport, L.I., recently purchased the Springfield Center General Store, which was founded in 1921, by Raymond S. McCredy, and are continuing the operation of the business.
Mr. Duncan was in charge of security for a supermarket chain prior to coming to this area. Mrs. Duncan's mother, Mrs. A. M. Fiebig, has a summer home at Whig's Corners below Cooperstown. They have two children, Robert R. Duncan Jr., who is attending the seventh grade at the East Springfield School, and Suzanne, who is in the sixth grade in Springfield Center School.
In addition to his store duties, the late Raymond McCredy carried on an egg route one day a week in the Mohawk Valley, making wholesale deliveries to stores, bakeries, and hospitals. Following his death in 1937, the store and egg deliveries were carried on by his wife, Mrs. Frances McCredy.
In 1951, the business was sold to Mrs. McCredy's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Maine, who operated the store until its recent sale.
