Scarecrows Unlimited will be at the American Cancer Society Harvest Festival on Saturday on the Walton Fairgrounds with materials to make scarecrows to bring home for display and, if desired, for entry into the annual Walton scarecrow competition.
As part of their community service, members of the Walton Central School Chapter of Future Farmers of America, under the direction of their faculty adviser, Tina Miner-James, have made wooden frames for the scarecrow bodies. These will be available from 10 a.m. until noon in the Children's Area at the festival.
Also, clothing has been collected to "dress" the scarecrows, and participants are encouraged to bring clothing of their choice if they wish to make a specific personalized scarecrow. Nancy Greene will be available to assist.
Prizes for the annual Walton Scarecrow Making Competition have been announced with a total value of more than $800.
The competition is sponsored by Scarecrows Unlimited with a deadline entry date of Oct. 23. Contestants may enter online at waltonny@frontiernet.net; by telephone at 865-5274 and at the following locations: Sidney Federal Credit Union, Walton Big M, William B. Ogden Free Library or Hess Service Station.
Winners will be announced on Oct. 30.
