ALBANY _ The State University of New York Board of Trustees on Wednesday unanimously appointed Dr. Carey Brush as acting president of the State College at Oneonta, effective Oct. 1.

Brush, who will earn the president's regular $83,994 annual salary, is filling in while a local search committee looks for someone to replace retiring president Clifford J. Craven.

At 67, Brush said he will not be a candidate for the permanent position. "I'm as old as the president _ I was thinking about retiring myself."

Brush first came to SUCO in 1951 as a Social Sciences instructor, and then served as chairman of the Social Sciences Department at Cortland High School. In 1958, he returned to SUCO, and has since held a number of teaching and administrative positions.
