At the recent annual steak roast of the Cooperstown Lions Club at Camp Minetoska on Otsego Lake, several members of the club were recognized for dedicated service to the community.
John Rowley, Lions Club president, recognized members celebrating milestone anniversaries, including Ernie Chase of Cooperstown, 60 years, and charter member of the club; Rich McCaffery of Cooperstown, 35 years; Bill Murdock of Cooperstown, 25 years; Paul Weber of Fly Creek, 30 years; Claire Kepner of Fly Creek, 20 years; and Peter Deysenroth of Fly Creek and Rich Dombrowski of Pierstown, 15 years. Each recipient received a tenure lapel pin.
Greg Frevele of Fly Creek and Kepner were presented the Lions Club International Foundations' highest honor, the Melvin Jones Fellowship. This recognizes a person's commitment for dedicated humanitarian service, presenters said. Their names are accessible online to visitors to the Lions International Headquarters in Oakbrook, IL.
The Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award was presented to McCaffery. The award honors outstanding Lions and non-Lions or organizations who perform exemplary service to a club, district or community. McCaffery was honored for his record of community service.
All three recipients have been a past president of the club, served as the chair of many committees and provide ongoing leadership in support of community projects. These recognitions are in the form of a plaque and lapel pin.
The Cooperstown Lions Club meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. from September through June. For more information about Lions Clubs, visit www.lionsclubs.org.
