SIDNEY _ Three Margaretville Central School students had a problem.
Four three years the trio had studied French under Miss Florence Coons and they planned to continue with French IV this year.
But then Miss Coons resigned to accept a position last September as instructor of French in the Sidney Senior High School. Margaretville was left without an instructor qualified to teach French IV.
Anxious to help her former pupils, all top scholars, Miss Coons and the administration at Margaretville are working on a plan whereby she will tutor the youngsters via a special telephone hook-up between the Margaretville and Sidney schools arranged through the telephone company.
Now once a week for one-half hour during a free period, Miss Coons will instruct the trio via telephone. She said her voice will be amplified so that all three can hear her simultaneously, and they in turn will be able to converse with her individually. Details concerning the various aspects of this rather unique method of instruction are now being worked out.
The students participating are Karen Grant, Stephen Trowbridge and Andrew Van Benschoten.
