SIDNEY — The Sidney Chamber of Commerce’s efforts to promote the town may go video with a cassette about the area to be sent to businesses interested in relocating or expanding.
A new brochure stressing Sidney as “A Community of Opportunity” with inserts that can be changed annually is also being printed to send to individuals interested in moving to the town. Both projects are part of an ongoing campaign to advertise Sidney, an effort the Delaware County Chamber head termed “one of the best organized and most aggressive in the Catskill area.”
With more sales being done through video cassettes, the Chamber’s directors decided Sidney should have one as well.
“Everybody is basically lazy. Most people would rather watch a TV brochure than read one,” said Joseph Mirabito, chamber president.
Chamber members would like to involve area youth in the project and will be looking to various organizations to share the costs. Because of their cost, the videos would be sent only to businesses that inquire about Sidney.
“There are a lot of businesses looking to relocate or expand who won’t even know where Sidney is or what it offers,” said Sidney chamber member Wiley Vincent. Attracting businesses to the area is difficult without active solicitation, he said.
Sidney’s efforts will pay off in the future, said Conklin “Mick” Mann, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce director. More light industries are moving from urban areas to areas with labor forces and the necessary resources.
“Every town should do it,” said Mann. “But it costs money and not every town has the chamber membership Sidney has.”

HARTWICK (Special) — New postal requirements and a take-off on television medical programs were features of a program presented at Hinman Hollow Grange.
Mrs. Harold Salisbury prepared and presented the program with Mrs. Kenneth Augur, Mr. Salisbury and Mrs. Fred Schidzick, participating.
Accomplishments of Benjamin Franklin on occasion of his recent birthday were related by Kenneth Augur.
A scene in Dr. Kildare’s room was enacted by Mrs. William Powers and her children, Joe, Jean, and Annette; Michael J. Powers, as Dr. Kildare, with Mrs. Earl Beers, as narrator.
At the business meeting presided over by Mr. Augur, it was announced that Hamm Hollow Grange will serve a dinner for the Order to the Eastern Star in Cooperstown on Feb. 18.
Mr. Augur appointed Mrs. Stefan G. Mozolewski to act as the Grange’s representative at the public meeting of the Cooperstown Youth Commission on Jan. 31, with Mrs. Earl Beers, on behalf of the youth committee, and William Powers as Town of Hartwick supervisor.
