COOPERSTOWN _ Glimmerglass Opera has announced preliminary details of the 1987 season, the first in the company's $5 million new home.
According to General Director Paul Kellogg, the season will include a gala concert to celebrate the opening of the new Alice Busch Opera Theater and three new productions.
The Alice Busch Opera Theater, currently under construction eight miles north of Cooperstown on Route 20, is scheduled for completion in April. Set in a meadow overlooking a reflecting pond, the auditorium is reminiscent of 18th and 19th century opera houses in its design and size, with seating on two levels and no seat further than 70 feet from the stage. The new theater is completely accessible to handicapped patrons in wheelchairs, with convenient parking available.

Oneonta School Board's decision to keep the high school on a full-day schedule has apparently been met with satisfaction by a majority of teachers who were "uncertain whether they would return to the public school faculty in the fall."
In January a survey conducted by School Supt. Harold V. Hager pointed out that 24 of the 165 teachers in the school system would not commit themselves as to whether or not they would return to their positions in the fall.
Dr. Hager attributed their uncertainty to the threat of half-day sessions.
Since then the school board has voted to keep the Oneonta High on full day sessions.
