Linda Fink, long-time jewelry hobbyist and self-taught crafter, will return with her popular beading workshop.
She will discuss one of the most well-known minerals on earth — quartz, and a few of the many members of its family including rose, smoky and milky white. Participants will select their quartz of choice and create a personalized bracelet. The program will be held from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5. There is a $5 material fee payable at the time of the workshop. Registration is required and may be done in person or by calling 432-1980. The Friends of Huntington Memorial Library are sponsoring this program.
November Genealogy Programs
During November, Librarian Sarah Livingston will hold several genealogy workshops. Registration is required for all workshops and may be done in person or by calling the library at 432-1980. Some workshops require material fees which are payable at the time of the workshop. Computers provided by the traveling classroom of the Four County Library System for these workshops.
Learn where to find immigration and naturalization records during this workshop, which will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13. Both online and print resources will be featured. There is a materials fee of $5.
Internet Resources for the Genealogist
Online site such as Mormon records, USGenWeb, Ellis Island, Castle Garden, email lists and Ancestry.com Library Edition will be covered in this program. Both beginners and experienced users are welcome. This introductory class will be held from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. There is a $5 materials fee.
At this workshop, learn about the resources available on Ancestry.com library edition. Databases of Ancestry along with searching tips and how-to’s will be covered. It is scheduled for 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7.
New York City Genealogy
This introductory workshop on New York City resources introduces you to repositories, museums, libraries and archives records available. Sarah will also talk about the history of the city you need to know, the websites that can help you search for your ancestors and more. The date of this workshop is Tuesday, Nov. 6, and it will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. There is a $10 fee payable at the time of this workshop. Participants will use computers provided by the traveling classroom of the Four County Library System.
Research in the United Kingdom
If your relatives hail from England, Ireland or Scotland, learn how and where to write for records. Livingston will show you Internet resources and how to access archives. The workshop is scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. There is a $10 fee for materials, payable at the time of the workshop.
During this workshop, you will learn how to locate and request records for your military ancestors. Online resources will also be included. It is scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14.
