Dairy Day set at farm market

The Oneonta Farmers' Market will have its annual Dairy Day event on Saturday in celebration National Dairy Month. The event is sponsored by the Latte Lounge.

Stone & Thistle Farm will offer free samples of dairy products from their East Meredith farm, including Kortright Creek Creamery organic goat's milk yogurt and homemade goat's milk fudge. Other offerings at the Stone & Thistle booth will include a baby-goat petting zoo and their Famous Udder Challenge, a blind taste test featuring goat's milk and cow's milk.

Hare and Feather Farm will feature free tastings of local Amish cheese from Mountainview Farm in Richfield Springs, and homemade fudge by Moya Williams in various flavors. This week, Hare and Feather Farm will add chicken sausage to their usual offerings of home-raised poultry, rabbit and Arucana eggs.

At the crafts table, children can create Father's Day cards, and children who bring their fathers will receive a free balloon while supplies last. Free samples of homemade strawberry ice cream will be available at the manager's table between noon and 1 p.m.

Live music with local favorites Kathy Shimberg and Wes St. Onge will begin at 11 a.m. Shimberg and St. Onge play acoustic music from a variety of traditions, including American standards, Irish jigs and reels, pop and country songs and traditional songs going back to the 17th century.

Fresh produce at the market this week will include strawberries, kale, peas, lettuce greens, arugula, sprouts, onions, garlic scapes, asparagus, radishes, rhubarb and turnips. Vendors will also offer grass-fed meats, homemade preserves, dried apples, potted flowers, cut flower bouquets, hanging baskets, maple products, handmade crafts and baked goods.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at Muller Plaza on Main Street in Oneonta. For information, call 437-0158 or visit www.OneontaFarmersMarket.com. Live performances at the Farmers' Market are a Decentralization Program made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts. In Otsego County, the Decentralization Program is administered by the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts.
