Tourism program to host workshop
Otsego County businesses will have an opportunity to learn about creating travel packages at a workshop, "The Secrets of Travel Packaging Success," set for May 27 in Cooperstown.
Tourism packaging is the collaboration of a number of partners, especially lodging businesses, to create interesting, value-added opportunities for visitors. The goal is to increase overnight stays and revenues for the partners, as well as special experiences for visitors to the area, presenters said.
Joe Veneto, known as "The Opportunity Guy," a 25-year veteran of the tourism industry, will present this day-long educational session at Templeton Hall at 63 Pioneer St. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 27. Veneto will cover topics such as the benefits of packaging, packaging trends, product types, components and models. Attendees will learn how to price packages and create "sizzle" that will sell rooms and package amenities.
Veneto said no experience is required for the workshop, which will lead participants through the process for the upcoming summer and fall seasons. Those who attend will be encouraged to build business-to-business relationships, presenters said.
"The Secrets of Travel Packaging Success" is a joint venture of the Otsego County Tourism Program and the Center for Economic & Community Development at the State University College at Oneonta.
Registration will begin at 8 am. The cost is $20 per person, which includes snacks and lunch. Lodging businesses of all sizes, attractions and arts organizations, and retail businesses are encouraged to attend this hands-on session.
To sign up, call Dena Rudnicki at the Otsego County Tourism Program at 643-0059, ext. 2, or e-mail rudnickid@otsegocounty.com. The deadline for registration is May 22.
