The Upper Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited presented a fly-tying program at Center Street School in Oneonta on Monday, tying flies called Zonkers for donations to the charity Healing Waters. Healing Waters promotes fly-casting and fly-fishing as therapeutic activities in recovery programs for wounded and disabled veterans.
Openings are still available for fly-fishing and conservation camp in July. The camp is sponsored by the New York Trout Unlimited Council and Cortland Line Co. and will be held at The Land of Vikings resort near Hale Eddy. Applications are due April 15. Twenty-three patrons and nine instructors participated in the Upper Susquehanna chapter's "Introduction to Fly-Fishing" seminar on March 7 at Hartwick College. The door prize went to Jeffery Gale of South New Berlin, who won a Cortland 444-weight forward fly line.
The group's next regular meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta. The program will be presented by club member Craig Buckbee titled "Sketches from a Fly Casters Notebook." Buckbee, a casting instructor, will present practical fly-casting techniques for common and unusual conditions and situations. Non-members, including youths, are welcome to attend.
