Bright Hill Literary Center at 94 Church St. in Treadwell has several events planned for the coming weeks.
On Thursday, Morris mystery novelist Lesley Diehl and Rochester poet and fiction writer Steve Huff will be featured at Word Thursdays at 7 p.m.
They will read from their work after the open mic, during which all present are invited to read from their own or another's work for up to five minutes. Admission is $3 and free to those 18 and younger. Refreshments will be served.
On Saturday, the Bright Hill Community Library will open its children's book section. Children may apply for library cards and take out books from the library for the first time since the library was built.
The library wing is at the rear of the Bright Hill complex.
The public is invited to the party, which will be from 1 to 2:45 p.m., will feature free refreshments and library talks by Karen Detert, Library chairwoman, and Nancy Jankura, volunteer librarian, both of whom have been involved in the library's cataloging program.
The Word & Image Gallery's final bidding party for fundraising exhibit and auction, "The WPA II & More" will follow the opening from 3 to 5 p.m. in the gallery in the main building at Bright Hill Literary Center. The exhibit features the work of many WPA-era artists based in New York City, as well as contemporary New York artists. The art, which was donated to Bright Hill by New York Artists Equity Association, has been shown in the gallery and in Bright Hill's virtual gallery at http://www.brighthillpress.org, since its opening on July 2; with silent bidding taking place since then online and in the gallery. Online bidding will end Thursday; the final bidding will take place in the gallery. Those interested in bidding may obtain numbers from Bright Hill; if they cannot attend the final party they may ask for a volunteer to act as proxy.

There are still places available for Bright Hill's Literary Workshop Museum Program 2011 sessions from Aug. 2 to 6 and from Aug. 16 to 20. Bright Hill's Literary Workshop Program features, this year, the organization's Museum & Workshop Research, Writing, Art, & Exhibition Program for Kids.
The first session will include a trip to Sainte Marie Among the Iroquois Museum in Liverpool; the second session will include a trip to the Robert F. Johnson Art Museum at Cornell University. The first session is for children for ages 5 to 13; and the second is for children ages 8 to 17.
The workshops are free, but there is a travel and materials fee of $35; students will bring their own lunches, and morning and afternoon snacks are provided. On the final Saturday, students will show their projects and read from the writing they have completed.

Annual Yard Sale Day set in Otego
The Otego Yard Sale Day organizers are preparing a map of the location of the participating homes and groups. Those interested in adding their location should call Bill Boerner at 988-7973 before Tuesday.
