Construction of a long-waited Science-Math building on the SUCO campus came closer to reality Wednesday, when it was learned that bids for the structure will be accepted in Albany on April 11.
Set aside by the New York State Legislature for the construction of the building is $2 million. The money was appropriated in 1961 but the bids for construction were not received even though plans were reportedly complete.
The legislature reappropriated the funds earlier this month.
Officials in Albany _ including the governor _ on several occasions have expressed concern over the gap between the drawing board and actual construction.
The new building is much needed, local college officials contend. They claim that the new structure will contain more up-to-date facilities for instruction and provide more educational space for the ever growing student body.
Bids will be opened by the State Department of Public Works at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.
The new building will be located between the Home Economics Building and the power plant across from the Health, Physical Education Building on the Upper Level of the campus, a spokesman said.
