Two Oneonta businessmen have plans to create a 14-lot housing development in the East End and they want some help from the city to put the plans into effect.
David Wilber and Peter Clark want to develop a nine-acre lot above North Fifth and North Sixth streets, Mayor David Brenner told members of the Common Council at their meeting Tuesday evening.
In an informal letter addressed to the Capital Budget and Planning Commission, Wilber said that he and Clark intend to create irregular, half-acre lots, retaining as many existing trees as possible and using the natural grade and terrain for the road and building sites.
The houses would be for people with middle to upper incomes.
The finished development should increase the assessment of the city by $1.4 million and pay $33,063 in property taxes each year, according to Wilber.
To keep down the cost of lots and make them attractive to buyers, Wilber asked the city to spend $39,000 to install water and sewer mains and finish the existing roads.
Brenner said that he is pleased and enthusiastic about the proposed development, both because of the addition to the tax rolls, and because there is a need in the city for that type of housing. The mayor and aldermen did not comment on Wilber's request for help from the city.
