Bright Hill to highlight nonfiction writing

Local authors will be featured at a celebration of nonfiction writing Saturday in Treadwell.

The Bright Hill Community Library will host History/Nonfiction Day from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the annual Treadwell Community Picnic. Local authors T.M. Bradshaw of Stamford, Denise Dailey of Walton and New York City, "Big" Chuck D'Imperio of Oneonta, David Krajicek of Delhi and Jim Mullen of Franklin will read from and sign copies of their books. Both events are open to the public at no charge. The picnic is co-hosted by the Treadwell Community Improvement Club.

Before moving from New York City to Stamford in 1997, T.M. Bradshaw presented her poetry and short stories at SOHO's Dancespace and Staten Island's Snug Harbor Cultural Center. She has published numerous book reviews and feature articles in local newspapers and regional magazines. Her short story "The Cat's Jewels" was included in the anthology "Crafty Cat Crimes," published in 2000 by Barnes and Noble Books. She is a regular reader at Stamford's 76 Main! "Here Are the Pictures You Wanted and the Stories that Illustrate Them" is her childhood memoir of the Bronx in the 1950s and '60s.

Dailey has taught English and science in the public and private schools and universities of New York. Fluent in four languages, she has traveled to the seven continents with her husband and children. Her travel journal, "Listening to Pakistan," was published as an e-book, and she collaborated on the first Catskill Literary Journal, "Who Knew?"

D'Imperio has been helming his top-rated radio program at WDOS in Oneonta since 1989, and was elected to the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000 as New York's Broadcaster of the Year. He is the author of several New York state history books, as well as personal memoir. His most recent book, "Monumental New York!" is published by Syracuse University Press, with another title due out from the same publisher in 2013. D'Imperio writes a column for The Daily Star, which is printed every other Monday.

Krajicek, an author and longtime journalist, writes "The Justice Story," a weekly crime feature, for the Sunday New York Daily News. He is the author of "Murder, American Style: 50 Unforgettable True Stories About Love Gone Wrong" (News Ink Books, 2010). His latest book, "True Crime: Missouri, The State's Most Notorious Criminal Cases," is due for release Sept. 1 by Stackpole Books. He also contributes to Kindle's "Crimescape" series, and is the cofounder of Criminal Justice Journalists, a national association of reporters and editors. Krajicek sings and plays trombone with the Blues Maneuver, an R&B band.

Mullen writes a syndicated weekly column that appears in more than 600 newspapers across the U.S. and Canada. His latest book, "Now in Paperback!," is a collection of columns from the past 10 yeares. Mullen's memoir of moving from Greenwich Village to a farm in the Catskills, "It Takes a Village Idiot," was a finalist for the 2001 Thurber Prize for American Humor. His spoof of a baby shower gift book, "Baby's First Tattoo," is in its 15th printing. For 13 years, Jim wrote the Hot Sheet column in Entertainment Weekly.
