There will be dancing in the streets and more in Sidney on Saturday. The 12th annual Sidney Summer Arts and Music Festival will be in downtown Sidney, with activities from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. It evolved from sidewalk sale days, Sidney Chamber of Commerce Committee Chairwoman Pam Roach said. Since the start, the group has hosted the event, which is made possible with the donations of area merchants.
The date is shared with the Sidney Alumni Association, which holds a series of events during the weekend. With the Unadilla Carnival of Sales, Mount Upton Community Days and other area events scheduled for Saturday, "there are a lot of activities going on in the area," Roach said.
Chamber Secretary Carol Allen said the festival is important because "it brings people to downtown Sidney to get acquainted with the village and see what we have to offer."
During the events, Main Street will be closed from Liberty Street to Cartwright Avenue. The stage is at the corner of Main and Division streets.
The schedule for the day:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Craft Show, with about 30 crafters, vendors and artists.
9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Food vendor court.
10 a.m.: Sidney Community Band will perform on stage.
10 a.m.: Mike the Juggler will entertain with balloon animals, juggling and face painting.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Carnival games and bounce house.
11:30 a.m.: The ABC Centre for Performing Arts will dance on Main Street.
12:30 p.m.: Woodshed Prophets will play "power twang" on stage.
2:15 p.m.: Split Rail will perform classic rock on stage.
4 p.m.: Sidney Ladder Company will announce the ball-drop winner.
5 p.m.: Classic Car Cruise-In begins.
5 p.m.: Root beer float sales begin.
5:30 p.m.: Sock Hop with Certified Soul.
7 p.m.: Cruise around downtown.

ROXBURY -- Greg Frederick is an artist who has likely broken more records than anyone reading this story today. By records, we mean that relic of the musical recording industry -- vinyl long-playing albums (the ones with the small hole in the center) and 45 revs per minute single records (the ones with the considerably larger hole in the center).
