'Loose Change' filmmaker arrested

ONEONTA — "Loose Change" filmmaker Korey Rowe, 27, of Oneonta, was arrested Thursday by Oneonta police and charged with sale of heroin.

According to a media release from the police, Rowe was arrested with 19-year-old Daniel Marte Jr. of the Bronx after the two men sold seven packets of heroin to an undercover police officer.

Both men were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree. Marte was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. Both charges are Class B felonies punishable by up to nine years imprisonment.

Rowe and Marte were arraigned today in front of Judge Lucy Bernier and remanded to the Otsego County Sheriff's Department, which assisted with the arrests. Rowe's bail is set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

Rowe, an Army veteran, produced the 2006 film "Loose Change," a documentary questioning the official explanation of the events on 9/11. The film was written and directed by Dylan Avery of Oneonta.

In 2007, Rowe, then a soldier in the 187th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, was arrested on a charge of desertion. He returned to his unit not long after his arrest. His father, Tom Rowe, said his son was honorably discharged.
