Andes gallery to open exhibit

Twenty-five still-life oil paintings by Judith Lamb will make up the exhibit to open today at the Chace-Randall Gallery, 49 Main St. in Andes. An artist's reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the gallery.

The pieces include images of arranged fruit, vegetables, garden flowers and plants juxtaposed with found objects.

Lamb is a New York City native who moved to Delaware County in the early 1980s.

According to a media release, after experimenting with different styles of painting throughout her life, Lamb said she discovered that still life was the "perfect vehicle for her temperament."

Lamb said in the release: "There is a peace and silence in this process that I find therapeutic. ... My interest is to take the ordinary and make it unique."

She said she selects the subjects for her paintings because they are "familiar to everyone, and therefore often taken for granted." Lamb seeks to compose objects so that "their beauty becomes apparent."

The exhibit runs through Aug. 5. For more information, call (845) 676-4901 or visit www.chacerandallgallery.com.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday as well as Monday holidays and by appointment.
