Sister Sparrow to perform at West Kortright Centre

West Kortright Centre -- at 49 W. Kortright Church Road in East Meredith -- will host nine-piece band Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds at 7 p.m. Sunday in an outdoor concert.

Shortly after the releases of the band's 2010 self-titled debut, it began opening for the Black Keys, Levon Helm, the Neville Brothers, Grace Potter and the Soul Rebels Brass Band, among others.

The group has released a second album, this year's "Pound of Dirt."

The band was formed by lead singer-songwriter and Delaware County native Arleigh Kincheloe and her harmonica-playing brother Jackson Kincheloe.

According to the Washington Post, "Sister Sparrow, Arleigh Kincheloe's nom de disque, is a soul queen with a voice strong and raspy enough to compete with riffing horns and clipped funk beats."

A media release compares the lead singer to Mavis Staples and Amy Winehouse.

Tickets are $18. For more details, call 278-5454 or go to www.westkc.org.
