The Gallery, at 128 Main St. in Stamford, will present an interactive didgeridoo workshop from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday by Phil (Shiva) Jones.
According to a media release, the class will explore the use of breath and sound frequencies to "connect with the divine and create a deeply serene state of consciousness for the enhancement of healing, meditation, prayer and creativity."
The didgeridoo is an ancient drone instrument made from the eucalyptus tree.
The instrument is traditionally played in healing ceremonies by the Aboriginal clans of Australia, the release said.
According to the release, the British Medical Association recently showed in a study that the didgeridoo sound helps reduce sleep apnea, as well as creates a state of relaxation, lower blood pressure and improved digestion.
Jones was the lead singer and songwriter for English spiritual rock band Quintessence. He has merged various spiritual mantras, sounds and themes during his professional music career, which began in the 1960s.
The musician now lectures and performs at churches, spiritual fellowships, wellness centers, yoga studies and universities nationwide.
Participants will be provided a didgeridoo to play during the workshop, which will be available for purchase.
The workshop is $25. For more information, call 652-4030 or visit www.touhey.com.
