Cake to take stage at Brewery Ommegang tonight

Indie band Cake will perform today at Brewery Ommegang, 656 County Highway 33 in Cooperstown. Gates for the show open at 5:30 p.m.

The group, formed in 1991, incorporates ironic, sarcastic lyrics with country, mariachi, alternative rock, funk, Iranian folk music and hip-hop.

The band has released six studio albums over its 21-year history, most recently is 2011's "Showroom of Compassion," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts.

Some of the Sacramento, Calif., band's hits include "Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle," "The Distance," "No Phone" and "Short Skirt/Long Jacket," which won the MTV Video Music Award for Breakthrough Video in 2002. Cover songs recorded by Cake include "Strangers in the Night," originally recorded by Frank Sinatra; "War Pigs," first done by Black Sabbath; and "I Will Survive," an alternative remake of Gloria Gaynor's disco classic.
