Juilliard-trained trio to play in Stamford

The Friend of Music will host The Allant Trio at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Frank W. Cyr Center on West Main Street in Stamford.

The trio -- violinist Anna Jihyun Park, cellist Alina Lim and pianist Beth Hyo Kyoung Nam -- are graduates and graduate students from the Juilliard School in New York City.

The group formed in fall 2010 after each musician had established chamber music careers as soloists, a media release said.

Together they participated in the Chamber Music Residency Program at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. In 2011, the trio was among the semi-finalists at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in Norway.

Born in South Korea, Park moved to New York City at 13 to study at the Juilliard Pre-College. She joined the Vivaldi Youth Ensemble the same year.

Lim began her study of the cello at 8 at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She is a two-time winner of the national finals of the Canadian Music Competition.

In 2003, Nam -- also from South Korea -- played in the Steinway Society Youth Artist Concert in San Jose, Calif., and at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall with the Nesher Trio.

The group will perform pieces from Ludwig van Beethoven and Joseph-Maurice Ravel.

Tickets are a suggested donation of $12 for each adult and $6 for seniors and students. Those attending under 13 years old are free.
