Imani Winds to play at church

Grammy-nominated Imani Winds will perform at 8 p.m. April 15 at First United Methodist Church on the corner of Church and Chestnut streets in Oneonta.

Imani Winds is an African-American wind quintet from New York City, known for adventurous programming featuring American, African and Latin American compositions, a media release said.

Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States, the release said.

The group's chamber music has been played by National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and "Performance Today," with frequent coverage in music magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

The musicians have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Disney Hall and the Kimmel Center.

Through commissions and performances, the quintet regularly collaborates with artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma to Wayne Shorter to renowned clarinetist/saxophonist/composer Paquito D'Rivera.
