The Cooperstown Art Association will open two new exhibits with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today at 22 Main St. in Cooperstown.
In Gallery A will be the 21st annual “Made in New York: Style & Decor” fine craft invitational show. The exhibit is devoted to one-of-a-kind functional and non-functional creations in a variety of media that relate to “decorating chic spaces and embellishing glamorous ensembles,” a media release said.
The show will feature works by 35 local and regional craftspeople, including furniture, jewelry, lighting, vessels, apparel, hats, tiles and wall hangings. “Made in New York” artists are Donna Bailey-Mackie, Karin Bremer, C. Michael Bufi, Jasmine Crowe, Fiona Dejardin, Geoffrey Foster, Jennifer Gandee, Ingrid Guiter, Eric Halvorson, Karen Harris, Benjamin T. Hobbs, Jane Johngren, Sally Jones, Karen Katz, Tracey Lippitt, Jean Lyon, Abigail McEnroe, Christie Schorf-Miller, James Miller, David Mobley, Eileen Murphy, Judith Plotner, Crystal Postighone, Mike Preckel, Bill Ralston, Wendy Reich, Gary Rith, Stephanie Rozene, Marcie Schwartzman, Bonita & Paul Varney, Bill & Barbara Walsh, Harmony Water and Mary Wirchansky.
The original gouache paintings of Buffalo artist Chad Grohman will be highlighted in Gallery B. According to the release, “Between Cities” was “made to celebrate the natural environment of upstate New York, specifically the areas between Buffalo and Cooperstown. The work began by observing the gaps of development along the New York State Thruway.”
Grohman said of the exhibit: “I envisioned an expansion of the landscape where the proximity of homes and business widened. Especially in the dense city areas and suburbs. I prefer a simple, decorative approach to painting to evoke a basic point of view.”
Both exhibits will run through Sept. 21. For more information, call 547-9777 or go to www.cooperstownart.com.
The galleries will be open for Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The galleries will be closed Tuesdays after Labor Day.
