Earlville Opera House to go zydeco on Saturday night

Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys will bring a night of zydeco to the Earlville Opera House at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Zydeco is a "plugged-in, hard-kicking dance hall music of African-American Southwest Louisiana with its accompanying dance craze extending from Rhode Island to San Francisco," a media release said.

Broussard is an accordion player who performed with Zydeco Force.

He is credited with influencing the "Nouveau Zydeco" musical movement in the early 1990s and for inspiring Keith Frank and Chris Ardoin to invent contemporary zydeco dance grooves, the release said.

The band will include some songs that showcase the essential roots of modern zydeco, with fiddle and accordion music that was once common at house parties and church dances in French-speaking black Creole communities.

Tickets are $16 for EOH members, $18 for the general public and $13 for students.

For more information, call (315) 691-3550 or go to www.earlvilleoperahouse.com.

Next up at the venue is "Four Seasons, Four Years: The Civil War: A Musical Journey" at 8 p.m. Friday, June 8.

The theater/folk production will feature 11 upstate singers and musicians looking at the roots of American folk music through the lens of the Civil War and events leading up to it. Tickets are $14 for EOH members, $16 for adults and $11 for students.
