Maywood Arts will host a film festival of works by Hamden filmmaker Jessica Vecchione from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The screenings will be at the Schoolhouse at 10770 County Road 23 in Sidney Center.
The festival will feature seven films and short documentaries, including award winners "Bienvenidos a Fleischmanns: An Immigrant Community in Rural America" and "Robert, Portrait of an Art-er," as well as "Occupy Wall Street 10/9/11" and "Margaretville, NY, Rebuilds after Irene."
Vecchione is the official videographer of the Arc of Delaware County and owner of video production company Vecc Videography.
The event is free and open to the public.

Smithy to open exhibit season
Smithy Center for the Arts is will kick off its season for The Smithy Pioneer Gallery on Monday, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The first show will honors the Smithy member artists. In addition to the artwork, Stoddard Hollow String Band will perform live in the courtyard and, there will be hor d'oeuvres, wine and beer courtesy of Brewery Ommegang.

Whimsical Metal Sculptures to be featured in East Meredith
The West Kortright Centre in East Meredith will kicks off its 2013 season with an exhibit of sculptures by John Jackson. "Whimsical Metal Sculptures" will open Friday, May 24, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m., sponsored by Brewery Ommegang and Hand in Hand Farm. The exhibit will run from May 24 to July 8.
