Gilbert to perform to celebrate 6OTS anninversary

6 On The Square is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a performance by Vance Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Philadelphia-area born Gilbert has "the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil and the guitar playing of a god."

Gilbert's music melds folk, pop, jazz, R&B and gospel, with his song topics ranging from life to love, politics to religion and beyond.

Gilbert came onto the music scene in the early 1990s when was noticed for his performances on the Boston folk club circuit, a media release said. Shawn Colvin invited him to be a special guest on her Fat City tour.

The musician's latest album, his tenth, is last year's "Old White Men."

Before working on this album, Gilbert spent a year-and-a-half touring with the late comedian George Carlin.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. 6 On The Square is at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford.
