Oneonta Theatre to present reggae, metal bands

The Oneonta Theatre, at 47 Chestnut St. in Oneonta, will host a varied slate of events in the coming week.

Erin Harkes starts things off at 8 p.m. today, along with SIRSY and The City Never Sleeps.

Harkes' original material mixes alternative, folk and rock. She began writing songs at age 19 and has four albums of original material. SIRSY has played with Maroon 5, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Third Eye Blind and more. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

They'll be followed by a heavy metal concert at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, celebrating the release of Mummified in Circuitry's new album, "Echoes of Morality."

Others playing include Oneonta's own Johnny Booth, Widow Sunday, Burden of Atlas, Forever Her Nightmare, Sleep Circadia, Two Step Sally, Contraband and Trippin on Sunday. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The theater's Stage Players will hold auditions for its production of Neil Simon's Manhattan comedy "Prisoner of Second Avenue" from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The play will be performed at 8 p.m. April 6 and at 3 and 8 p.m. April 7. The show includes two male roles and three female roles, with ages ranging from 40s to 60s.

Next up is a night of acoustic music starting at 6 p.m. Those slated to perform are the Dylan Bressler Band, Khalil Jade, Hello Seattles and All But Impossible. Tickets are $2 at the door.

Finally, at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, the theater will present Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad with The Big Takeover.

The Rochester reggae Squad was called "truly one of the finest roots reggae ensembles" by CBS Radio's Street Date.

And online music community JamBase said, "The five masterful musicians weave layers of complex music within a reggae framework and may be one of the most diverse bands in the genre."

The band has shared the stage with Jefferson Starship, The Original Wailers, Pete Seeger, Badfish and more.

Tickets for this show are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the show.
