Main View Gallery to screen local filmmaker's documentary on artist

Main View Gallery & Studio will host a screening of "Robert, Portrait of an Art-er" at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at 73 Main St. in Oneonta.

The documentary, conceived by Hamden filmmaker Jessica Vecchione, details the work of Robert Johnson, a little-known artist and long-time Franklin resident.

In the late 1990s, Johnson began constructing stone castles and keeps from native stone in his backyard.

He has since created works at the homes of several Franklin residents.

In the 1980s, Johnson began collecting early 20th century household appliances.

As a result, Johnson's house and yard are a work of art in which he lives his life, a media release said.

Vecchione is the producer of the award-winning documentary, "Bienvenido a Fleischmanns: An Immigrant Community in Rural America." She runs a video production company, which specializes in video for online businesses and institutions.

Vecchione is the official videographer for the Arc of Delaware County.

"Robert, Portrait of an Art-er" has been selected for inclusion at the Buffalo Niagara 2012 Film Festival.

The screening is free and open to the public. Filmgoers also can view the gallery's exhibit "Heads Up!" The show close Feb. 17
