The Smithy Center for the Arts will be offer two events in the coming week.
At 8 p.m. Saturday, the "Not Too Far From Home" professional standup comedy tour rolls into 55 Pioneer St. in Cooperstown. Comedians will be Aaron David Ward, Deric Harrington and Frank Gentile.
Ward has appeared throughout the Midwest and Northeast, including at the Boston Comedy Festival, as well as in several movies and television show pilots.
Harrington has been voted funniest person in upstate New York and the second-funniest person in Peoria, Ill.
Gentile has performed in the Northeast and in several comedy competitions. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
The Smithy also will host its final opening of the summer season for "Long Ago & Far Away" from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.
The exhibits will focus on local artists, varied media and community members.
The first-floor gallery will feature Lynne Tanner, Megan Irving, Ursula Bower and Nancy Becker Pettibone.
The second floor will house Eileen Murphy's new sculpture series and Doug Jamieson's etchings. The third floor will feature "There Were No Fences," featuring artistic works, relics and objects from Mike Mano and other community members. And the Smithy courtyard will host sculptures by Carla Hall.

Smithy to open exhibit season
Smithy Center for the Arts is will kick off its season for The Smithy Pioneer Gallery on Monday, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The first show will honors the Smithy member artists. In addition to the artwork, Stoddard Hollow String Band will perform live in the courtyard and, there will be hor d'oeuvres, wine and beer courtesy of Brewery Ommegang.

Whimsical Metal Sculptures to be featured in East Meredith
The West Kortright Centre in East Meredith will kicks off its 2013 season with an exhibit of sculptures by John Jackson. "Whimsical Metal Sculptures" will open Friday, May 24, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m., sponsored by Brewery Ommegang and Hand in Hand Farm. The exhibit will run from May 24 to July 8.
