Hartwick to host Futsal league
The Hartwick men's soccer team will host the second annual Indoor Futsal League, which starts Feb. 17 at Binder Gymnasium. The eight-team league plays a tournament format. Games are scheduled for 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. on Sundays. Cost is $125 and is set up for players ages 17 and older.

Former O-State athletes to run across U.S.
Oneonta State cross country and track alumni Andy Wahila and Matt Durkin will team with O-State student Ken Stannard and Dewey DeLisle to run from the Atlantic Ocean in Georgia to the Pacific Ocean in San Diego.
The foursome will begin a trip that is expected to last four months and cover about 2,800 miles Feb. 1. The run will raise money for a memorial scholarship in the name of Wahila's cousin, PFC Philip Diaferio, who died in a car accident while home from leave from the U.S. Army. The four also will donate money to Habitat Humanity.
Fellow O-State alumni Rick DeCarr and Dan Verdi will join the group to finish the run at the end of May. For more information, visit the website www.nationrun.com.
Broncos' Leary to coach U-19 lacrosse
SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse coach Bob Leary has been named to the Iroquois Nationals staff for the program's entry to the 2008 World Under-19 Lacrosse Championships.
The championships are held separately for men and women about every four years. This year's men's championship is July 3-12 at Coquitlam, British Columbia.
The Nationals represent the Haudenosaunee, Six Nations, Iroquois Confederacy in international lacrosse competition. The International Lacrosse Federation recognizes the Iroquois as a sovereign nation.
Leary is in his fifth season at Delhi, where he also serves as its women's soccer coach.
Leary also coached soccer and lacrosse at SUNYIT from 1997-2003, as well as a U-17 all-star lacrosse team that toured Australia in 2003.
Girls softball team seeks player
The New York champion Bagsai Heat 16U softball team has an opening for an experienced, committed player for 16U and 18U tournaments in New York and Pennsylvania.

Lifting competition this weekend
Muscles in Motion Gym at 101 Main St. in Oneonta will host the Mas Poder Bench Press Benefit on Saturday and Sunday.
Amateur and casual lifters will compete Saturday. Cost is $10 per person. A USAPL-sanctioned meet featuring lifters from around the state follows Sunday. A minimum of 10 percent of the lifters will be drug-tested.
Admission is by donation. The event serves as a fundraiser for a group that will travel to Nicaragua to build a school. All profits will help purchase building supplies for the school.
Softball camp to continue Sunday
The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will host a Fastpitch Softball Pitching Camp for players ages 8-18 on Sunday and Jan. 27. Sessions will run from 1-1:45 p.m. (ages 13-18, advanced/intermediate pitchers, catchers); from 1:45-3:45 p.m. (8-18, hitting, fielding); and from 3:45-4:30 p.m. (8-12, beginning pitchers).

Shandaken Biathlon slated for Sunday
The Shandaken Primitive Biathlon is set for Sunday at Shandaken's Oliverea Valley on the grounds of the Upper Esopus Fish and Game Association in the Catskill Mountains.
The wooded course over mountainous terrain is about 1 mile in length and includes four shooting stations that feature two targets at varying distances apiece. The competition will be divided into four age-groups, 12-16, 17-40, 41-59 and 60-and-older.

Perch Derby set for Feb. 2
The Oxford Lions Club will host its annual Perch Derby on Feb. 2 on Chenango Lake in Norwich.
Proceeds will help provide eye examinations and eyeglasses for those in need and also benefit the Oxford Food Pantry, the Oxford Memorial Library and many other local groups.

The club is also holding a raffle in conjunction with the derby. Tickets can be purchased from any club member and also will be on sale during the derby.

State wrestling runs March 8-9
Tickets are on sale for the 46th annual New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships, which will run March 8-9 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
In its fifth year as a two-division format, the tournament will follow a similar schedule to last year's event held at the Times Union Center in Albany. The 2008 championships mark the second year that an additional 120 wrestlers will fill byes in the brackets, resulting in a combined field of 520 student-athletes.
The event begins with the Parade of Champions at 10 a.m. March 8. Preliminaries in both divisions follow from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Quarterfinals will run from 2:30-4:30 p.m., with wrestlbacks set for 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Semifinals begin Sunday's schedule and will run from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wrestlebacks and consolation semifinals are set for 12:30-2 p.m., followed by consolation finals from 2:15-4 p.m. Championships begin at 6 p.m. and will be featured on two mats.

The championships return to Rochester for the first time since 1969, when they were held at RIT. They will return to Albany's Times Union Center in 2009.
Baseball club to host series
The Blue Jays Baseball Club will hold its seventh annual exhibition series near Cooperstown for high school varsity teams in late April and mid-May.
The club also will host three-game tournaments for summer teams ages 13, 14U, 15U, 16U and 18U. Trophies and medallions are awarded.

The Oneonta Family YMCA is accepting sign-ups for the following winter leagues: Fastbreak Basketball (Monday nights); 30-and-Over Basketball (Tuesday nights); 50-and-Over Basketball (Wednesday nights); Racquetball (Monday nights); and Co-Ed Indoor Soccer (Thursday nights).

The Oneonta Youth Soccer Association is accepting registration for its Spring Recreational Soccer Program.

The Cooperstown Soccer Club has updated its website and now offers online registration for parents of youth soccer players.
The CSC website _ www.coopsoccerclub.com _ also will feature team details and coaching information, along with game and practice schedules.
Registration for spring soccer runs through March 1. The Spring Recreational Soccer season is for students in grades K-6 and runs Saturdays from April 26-June 28 (no games May 3).
The CSC will continue to accept paper registrations, although parents are encouraged to register online.
